It is Mothers Day today, but please spare a thought,
For mums who don’t receive gifts their child has bought,
For mums who won’t get a card, a picture they have drawn,
Or a handmade posy of flowers which they have written their name on.
It is Mothers Day today, but no words will be said,
There may be no presents, or breakfast in bed,
For special needs children find it hard to express love,
But that little smile they give you is something to be proud of.
It is Mothers Day today, and that look that you get,
When you’re stressed and so tired, you often forget,
That twinkle in their eyes, that smile from their cheek,
You don’t need words to say I love you, gestures speak.
It is Mothers Day today, so please spare a thought,
For people posting pictures of all the things they’ve been bought,
A simple hug, a simple kiss, means so very much,
To the parents of the children who struggle to be touched.
It’s Mothers Day today, special needs mums will understand,
That their child may not ever write their name, or even hold mums hand,
But what is special, means so much and always gets them through,
Is that look, that smile, that twinkle, that they only give to you.
